Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic and was introduced in 1987. This active constituent has 100 times more affinity towards bacterial DNA gyrase than mammalian DNA gyrase. It inhibits the enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV and thus prevents DNA replication.
